Even though The Hubby's birthday was a little bit ago, I can't help but post these awesome pictures of his birthday cake.

The Hubby was feeling a bit down about his upcoming birthday and wasn't particularly excited by the whole prospect of turning one year older.  I myself love birthdays (mine to be exact) and fully believe that it is truly not one's birthday until they have a birthday cake.

The cakes of The Hubby's birthday past have been decent and always themed to something of his liking naturally.  But this year I had to come up with something brilliant and awesome in order to cheer him up and make this birthday especially memoerable for him.

After racking my brain for a few days it finally came to me.  The Hubby's most favorite movie in the world is "Jaws" and I know that making a cake from a scene of that movie would not be at all impossible.  The next question was "which scene do I make the bakers make the cake into?"  After scouring the internet I finally found the right picture thanks to McFarlane Toys:

I arrived at the bakery with a printout of the photo above and instantly I knew I had a winner of an idea.  All the guys in the bakery were excited about making this cake.

The big day came and this is what the cake looked like (note: I made it very clear that there was to be blood included on this cake):

All in all it was an awesome cake which took days to eat.  I'm not sure how to outdo myself next year, but I have some time.

Hello Pointe Readers, It's Me, Starla...

I feel that The Pointe has become my bastard child.  It exists, it constantly reminds me that I need to pay more attention to it and makes me feel guilty because at one point I showed it love just about everyday.

Those days have long gone.  I still love The Pointe and I intend to keep updating it but it's time that I stop deluding myself with the ideas that I'll blog everyday.  Since leaving TLSA, where I had plenty of time to blog while pushing papers, daydreaming of strangling people and biting the phone during asinine conversations with coworkers pretending to work, I just don't have the time during the day while working at a real job and my nights are filled with school work especially now that I'm starting on my pre-med schooling.

I have plenty of things to blog about and surely I still have rants and opinions, but it seems as though I'll have to start making lists so that I can post about it later depending on the idea's relevency.

I hope all The Pointe readers understand (whoever is left or whoever I had to begin with).  It's not you, it's me.

Read To Me

As of late I have been madly obsessed with Christopher Moore books, so much so that I got to thinking how wonderful it would be to have those books with me on my iPod so that I could listen to them while I worked.

What I didn't expect was how expensive the books would be on iTunes.  Are you kidding?  $30?  The books brand new didn't cost that much.  I understand that you have to pay someone to actually read the entire book and whatnot but seriously?  $30?

I'm cheap anyways when it comes to books and the like.  I will hunt around the internet until I find the book for a few bucks thanks to such sites like half.com, ebay and amazon.

Oh well, I guess I can scratch listening to the books at work off my list.  For $30 I think I should have someone follow me around reading the book to me.

Completely Unremarkable

I've been asked in the real world to list six unremarkable quirks on The Pointe (so because I'm bored I'm totally doing it).  I going to focus on the positive and mundane for this meme.

1) I am stoked beyond belief that I will be able to relive my 5th grade year this October by being able to go see New Kids on the Block this October.  Truth be told, I still rock out to them in my truck and sadly I can still do some of their dance moves.

2) I can't go a day without checking I Can Has Cheezburger.  It's an addiction I swear!

3) When I'm feeling in the mood for some comfort food I turn to two of the worst things possible that has been comforting me since I was a wee girl.  Those two foods are slices of white bread with mayonnaise.  And that's it.  It sounds disgusting but I love mayonnaise and I love white bread.  Put them together and I'm in heaven!

4) I read all my mail, as well as some books, in the bathroom.  I'm not sure where or when this habit started but it's one that I can't break.

5) Speaking of music, I have found a new (at least for me) song that I love to turn up and sing to in my truck.  That song is "Rock Me Gently" by Andy Kim.  How I've never heard of this 70's gem before now I'll never know.

6) Whenever I'm on the computer I have to have some sort of background noise whether it's music or the television.  If it's too quiet I can't concentrate on what I'm doing.

Marked For Life

This tattoo is taken from a card that my mother gave a few years ago and done in her handwriting.

Now if something ever happened to the card I'll always have the sentiment with me.

Trying To Be On Top Of It

You may or may not have noticed, but I've made a few changes here and there on The Pointe.

First being is getting rid of the long ass blog roll from Thursday Thirteen.  No offence to any of the Thursday Thirteeners, but I've become a total slacker when it comes to The Pointe, not to mention Thursday Thirteen.  So I figured in all fairness I would get rid of the blog roll until I become an active participant again.  I apologize to anyone who depended on that blog roll to access a favorite site.

Another thing I've done is that I started the process of checking out the links on the left-hand side to ensure that all the links were still active and working.  I double checked the links at home as well as work and any of the links that wouldn't open are now gone under the category "Chubby Fashion".  I'll be working on the other categories in the next following days.

If anyone has a suggestion for a site or blog to add to any of the lists, please let me know and I will gladly add it.

Stay tuned for there may be a few more changes to come!

It's The Season For Popcorn Tins

As I'm sitting here at the job (which I'm totally going to have to come up with a name for) I came to discover, to much glee, that someone had brought a popcorn tin.

Now I don't know why people make fun of popcorn tins but if I were to find one under my Christmas tree I would be totally stoked, especially if it was filled to the brim with cheesy popcorny goodness!

Anyways, as I'm sitting here typing and munching on the popcorn, all alone in the office, I'm now realizing that the once half-full cheese popcorn section is now down to mere popcorn kernel crumbs.  I suppose I should figure out if I want to admit to this gluttonous act or just blame the previous shift.  I'm going with the latter.  As long as no one looks at my orange stained finger tips I'll be in the clear!

Random Question Of The Week: New Dishes

Should I feel like a complete goober for not wanting to break-in my new dishes that I have been pining for for months that The Hubby just bought me?

Lucky Magazine Survey

I just got in the mail the other day a Lucky Magazine "Love to Shop" Survey/Rewards form.

Has anyone else gotten one of these before?

They flatter you by telling you that only 1% of women in Arizona (I'm sure it's the same for any state) will be picked to do this survery blah, blah, blah...

The questions are all pretty generic and clothing related, such as "How many pairs of shoes do you own?" or "Do designers influence your clothing choices?"  And then you get to fill in a little circle to the most appropriate answer.

I figured this was some sort of marketing ploy to get people subscribed to Lucky Magazine, and it worked on me!  I'm not subscribed yet, but if you do sign-up, you get a free purse.  It's pretty and metallicy and more than worth the possilbe $10 I may spend on my subscription.  I'm still undecided as to whether or not I would actually sign up for a magazine I never thought about buying before.

Also, you get enrolled in some sort of chance of getting a $5000 shopping spree in New York with your very own fashion editor or something.  They even wrote in the paper work "Imagine shopping at places like Dolce & Gabana, Prada and hidden boutiques you never would have found on your own". 

Yeah, imagine that.  What are the chances that I would win said shopping spree?  The chances of me winning are just as good as the chances that I would actually find a size 22 at any of the stores they mentioned in the paper work.

Oh well, at least I got free labels with my name printed on them.
